This scripting system meant that players could accurately recreate games like the original Legend of Zeldaand even make their own original games. The scripting system involved players using new logic-based switches that could interact with a wide range of items in the game, altering certain properties with an entirely new selection of conditions. However, nothing would completely change the series' level creation mechanics like LBP2's scripting system. With additions like NPCs and new equipment for players to use, creators had way more to work with when it came to making new levels. LittleBigPlanet 2, also developed by Media Molecule, is regarded as a fantastic sequel that built upon everything that made the original so charming. Of course, the biggest appeal of LittleBigPlanet wasn't really the main story's levels it was the creative MyMoon feature that allowed players to build their own levels and share them with others. There was a fairly loose story that tied each series of levels together, usually with a small cast of puppet-like characters to guide players. Players were presented with a charming series of levels that took place in an adorable arts-and-crafts-styled world. The original LittleBigPlanet was developed by Media Molecule and quickly became one of the most unique games on the PlayStation 3, continuing PlayStation's history of amazing platformers. While critics generally considered LBP3 to be an enjoyable game, it was hard to ignore the numerous technical issues on the PlayStation 4 version. While Sackboy: A Big Adventure is still an enjoyable game, the spinoff doesn't bode well for the future of the series.įor those who played LittleBigPlanet 3, the last entry in the series before Sackboy, the sudden shift in direction might not come as a surprise. Instead of focusing on 2D platforming with an emphasis on creativity and level-building, Sackboy was a more standard 3D platformer with far less creative freedom than previous games in the franchise. Sackboy : A Big Adventure was a pretty surprising title for fans of LittleBigPlanetto see announced in 2020, since it was a wild departure from the usual formula for the series that had been dormant for about six years.
